Chili Garlic Green Beans

So this Hakka Chinese restaurant we have been going to for years and years, that our friends also love now makes the BEST fried green beans. Sounds boring and simple, but WOW- so good! I know loads of people who would agree with me. I just HAD to try and make something similar at home. I personally love to add some freshly squeezed lemon juice over the hot green beans, as do a few others, but try it with and without.  It’s so fast to make! Makes for a great snack or side. I have not included quantities because it really depends on how much you want to make.

What you need:

Green beans with the ends snipped
Fresh garlic sliced and/or chopped finely
Coarse sea salt to taste
Red chilli flakes
Oil
Lemon if you’d like

How to:

  1. Boil enough water for the green beans and allow the beans to steam/boil till a bit soft and brighter green
  2. Drain the beans, heat the oil and toss in the beans – make sure the heat is on medium high
  3. Fry the beans for 2 to 3 minutes with salt and red pepper flakes, THEN add in the garlic. You don’t want to add the garlic in too early or it burns and the beans aren’t ready (yes I made that mistake the 1st time I attempted this lol)
  4. Fry the beans till they start to shrivel a bit and then serve immediately with lemon on the side
  5. IF you find that the beans are a bit tough because you had not boiled them enough, pop them into the microwave for a couple of minutes. Problem solved. However, do NOT over fry the beans either- you need em right in the middle!

ENJOY
