Easy Veal Bolognese with Fresh Herbs

Serves 4 to 6

This is a very easy meat sauce that is flavoured with fresh herbs as well as some dry spices. Though the list of ingredients isn’t short, the method is very easy. You can make extra and freeze it to use another day and it’s great with spaghetti or rigatoni. The fresh herbs really bring this meat sauce up a notch- especially the 2 different types of basil used. I used veal but of course you can substitute with ground beef.!

Back
What you need:

2 tbsp oil
1 red onion chopped roughly
1 ½ pounds minced veal
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp ginger paste
1 large green pepper julienned/chopped
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
1 ½ tbsp mixed Italian spices (dry)
½ a scotch bonnet diced or any other fresh hot pepper of your choice
½ tsp cumin powder
1 tbsp all purpose seasoning
Some fresh thyme
Some fresh rosemary leaves
A little fresh lemon basil chopped up
Regular basil chopped
½ cup spring onions chopped
1 tbsp Philadelphia cream cheese
1 jar tomato based pasta sauce of your choice

How to:

  1. Fry the onion for a couple of minutes in the oil until softened
  2. Add the next 10 ingredients and cook on medium heat, stirring often
  3. Once the meat is cooked, add the pasta sauce and all the fresh herbs
  4. Cover and simmer for about 25 minutes or more if you wish
  5. Just before serving, mix in the 1 tbsp cream cheese
  6. Serve with rigatoni or spaghetti

ENJOY!
