You may remember a couple of months ago my Uncle J & Aunty C sent me a wonderful package of freshly picked herbs and vegetables from their garden. They have a beautiful country home up in Campbellford and this year about 20 of us spent Thanksgiving there (over 3 weeks ago). I was thinking about American Thanksgiving coming up soon and went back to look over the pictures from our lovely weekend, and thought to share them with you guys. I have been up to their home in summer and it’s beautiful of course with everything in full bloom, but there was a certain charm to being there with a chill in the air. After an absolutely delicious and memorable Thanksgiving dinner (the 2nd Thanksgiving dinner I had this year!), we watched the leaves fall to the ground while wrapped up in blankets on the front porch. The next day we spent a lot of time harvesting the produce (okay watching Uncle J & Aunty C do all the work really) and shared the goodies with everyone to bring back home. You would think that there wouldn’t be much to take home what with it being Mid October, but there was so much! I have been having so much fun using all the herbs and vegetables the last couple of weeks. Nothing like cooking with fresh organic veggies and herbs! I brought home eggplant, beets, carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, garlic, potatoes, fingerling potatoes, red peppers, green peppers, 3 kinds of basil, thyme, rosemary, nigella seeds, 2 kinds of mint, anise hyssop, and so much more! I used the lemon basil over some pasta recently and it was delicious. Last night I made a potage de crecy with the last of the carrots, garlic, Jerusalem artichokes and tons of fresh ginger. It was delicious if I do say so myself. I will be putting up the recipe soon. In the meantime, enjoy these pictures. I had never thought I would want a home in the country but now I wonder...
