SOME of the groceries
I love going away for little weekend breaks - especially away to cottage country as it's close enough to the GTA and yet a completely different world. There's nothing like relaxing in front of the lake with your best friends, jumping into it without dipping your toe in to test the temperature, laughing at the screams that ensue, staying up late playing jenga or telling ghost stories, going for midnight swims, canoeing, sleeping where ever you find room, and playing pranks on each other. Nothing however beats cooking and eating at a cottage some how, especially when you use a make shift floating bowl to eat your food in so you don't have to come out of the water! The food aspect is so great- everyone always brings way too much of course so you end up exchanging things and bringing back goodies as well! Also, I love stopping over at unique places to eat at while on the road trip to and fro. This time we stopped at Grandma's Country Kitchen on the way to Highland Grove and had some snacks and tea, picking up home made butter tarts and strawberry rhubarb pie for everyone else. Safe to say, I never got to try the pie! It was apparently delicious and reminded everyone of grandma's cooking indeed. Next time perhaps! I did get to eat a lot of great veggies and fruit everyone had picked up for the trip along with the usual barbecue items we love to eat while up north. I found it interesting to see how a couple of years make such a difference with regards to what kind of food you want to eat or are okay to eat. So many healthier items show up on the grocery list now! Good for us!! Also, with multiple nationalities staying together, we got to try so many different things- So what did we end up eating over the 3 days? Here are some of the items. Have YOU ever had a hot dog while swimming? No? Well I have!
Sounds amazing right? It was! That is what happens when you go to a cottage with a bunch of foodies! I am waiting for the gorgous lake pictures- hope to get them later this week from 1 of our friends! W.P
