I have been meaning to write this post since last Eid and I’ve finally gotten around to it! I was at my cousin Angela’s house last Eid and she along with her sister in law had created a gorgeous salad island on her round glass kitchen table. It reminded me so much of weddings in Karachi, Pakistan. There were always huge buffets that were laid out for the guests on different tables. A salad bar or a salad island was necessary and was very close to the barbecue station and hot tandoor (clay oven used to make naan which is traditional flat bread).
Angela had served various salads on top of a star shaped platter which she had made herself. She is quite creative and used foil and cardboard to make this platter. As you can see in the picture, all the vegetables and other ingredients have been cut in fancy ways to make the salads look even more appetizing. Take a look at the centre piece. It is made of fresh vegetables and she carved everything herself. I know, I know, it is absolutely stunning! If you don’t have a large surface available to create such a master piece, you can always use bowls in different sizes or shapes to serve the salads and put them on tiered stands, or elevate them on decorated boxes. It will create a beautiful look to compliment any meal. If you try these tips or something similar, let us know. We would love to see pictures or read your comments A.K. |
