What you need:

2 pounds minced beef (medium)
2 tbsp minced garlic
1 1/2 tsp minced ginger or ginger paste
1 small onion chopped finely
salt and pepper to taste (I put a LOT of black pepper)
red pepper chilli flakes
1 tsp garam masala (can be bought from local Indian/Pakistani store)
28 ounces finely chopped tomatoes (I prefer to use fresh but if I am in a hurry or out of em, then I use canned tomatoes)
1 cup chopped bell peppers (2 or 3 different ones)
3 tablespoon tomato paste
1 cup cremini mushrooms (chopped or whole as preferred)
1 to 2 tbsp mixed dry Italian herbs of your choice
2 cups cottage cheese
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
1 egg
1 1/2 tbsp chopped parsley (or dry parsley flakes)
salt and pepper to taste (for the cheese mixture)
lasagne strips (I use straight to the oven lasagne strips)
grated cheese

How to:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350
  2. Heat the garlic and ginger (no oil) in a large skillet or sauce pan
  3. Add the minced meat, salt and pepper, pepper flakes, garam masala and chopped onion and brown on medium high heat
  4. Add in tomatoes, tomato paste and the Italian herbs and simmer on medium heat for about 20 minutes
  5. Add in the chopped veggies and simmer for a bit more
  6. Meanwhile, in a small bowl mix cottage cheese, parmesan cheese, egg, parsley, salt and pepper
  7. Turn off the stove and layer the bottom of an oven safe casserole dish with the meat sauce, lasagne strips, meat sauce, cheese mix, lasagne strips, meat sauce, cheese mix, lasagne strips, meat sauce & then shredded cheese. Cover with foil and bake for about 50 mins to an hour
