Semolina and Milk Halva

Serves 6

This halva recipe was given to me by my husband’s cousin who lives in Dearborn, Michigan. I actually saw her making it and when I saw how easy it was, I just had to share it with you. It is perfect for a Pakistani weekend brunch for which I will be sharing more recipes soon

What you Need:

For The Halwa:
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup semolina
1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered milk
2 cups water
4 green cardamoms
¼ tsp saffron soaked in 2 tbs warm water

For The Garnish:
Chopped walnuts
Sliced almonds
Raisins

How To:

1.       In a large pot, heat up the vegetable oil on medium.
2.       Add green cardamoms and fry them for 1 minute.
3.       Add semolina and lower the heat.
4.       Keep stirring until pale golden.
5.       Add sugar. Stir some more.
6.       Add powdered milk, saffron and water.
7.       Be careful at this time as the semolina will start to swell up and can burn you.
8.       Keep the heat on low and cover the pot for 5 mins until the semolina has soaked up all the water.
9.       Take out in a flat platter.
10.     Garnish with nuts.
11.     Raisins are optional.
