Steamed Lobsters w/ Herb & Garlic Butter Sauce

Steaming lobsters is the better way to go to make sure they stay juicy and succulent. The lady who sold me the lobsters said that you need to steam a lobster for 8 mins per pound for the 1st pound and then 3 mins for every additional pound thereafter. Since it was the 1st time I made lobsters, I followed her instructions for everything. These were delicious with some herb and garlic butter (as below), & a side of rice and vegetables.

What you need:

Live lobsters
2 fistfuls of sea salt
Water
A large pot with a cover
Garlic cloves
Salted butter
Minced garlic
Mixed Italian herbs
Lemons
Black pepper

How to:

  1. To steam the lobsters, bring some water to a boil in a pot with the sea salt and a couple of whole garlic cloves in it. The pot should only be a ¼ full or about 2 inches
  2. Once the water has started boiling, add the lobsters. Make sure the pot is not over crowded
  3. Half way through, turn the lobsters/shift them a little
  4. In the meantime, heat the butter in a small sauce pan, and add the minced garlic, black pepper and herbs. Simmer until the garlic turns golden brown and then keep on low till the lobsters are ready. Add lemon juice just before serving. *as much or as little as you want
  5. Once the time is up, check that the lobsters are bright red and remove with tongs
  6. Run under some cool water and then start cracking! (you can look at some videos to see how)
  7. You can reheat the lobster before serving if you wish
  8. Serve with the butter and any sides you prefer.  Because you steamed the lobster in sea salt solution, you won’t need to add anything else on it!

ENJOY!
